It can not be done properly by just anyone and it can not be automated without sacrificing good results. Photography has been a hobby of mine for over 20 years, It has taught me what to look for and how to correct an image to get the best results. 5- Get free advice. The best service is not always what you need, I'll help you choose the best service for your project.
Here's how we process your slides:
Before scanning, your slides are cleaned with low pressure air to remove any dust. Now they are scanned at a very high resolution using a Professional Coolscan 5000 film scanner with digital ICE technology. ICE digitally removes any dust in the scan that may have been left on the slide. The scanned slide will be as close to drum scanning as possible without the very high cost of about $20 per slide. After scanning, all digital pictures will be examined for proper white balance. Many of your slides will need a white balance color correction (Gold Service). I will perform this by hand using software tools until the picture looks it's best. This correction is critical to your slides looking their best (Examples below). Be careful of companies offering ROC/GEN color correction. This is an automatic method and automatic methods simply don't work well. While it may work okay on some of your slides, they will make your other slides look worse and the original color information will be lost! This method is a free option with Silver Service if you request it. If you request it, I'll use it, but I don't recommend it. Our Silver Service is an inexpensive way to preserve your slides, I suggest you don't ask for 'ROC/GEN' when using our Silver process. This way, the original color information will be retained and your digital images can be color corrected at a later time without any loss of quality. For best transfer results, use our Gold Service. With Gold Service, each picture is examined and color corrected by hand if needed using digital software as a tool and not simply by clicking a 'Use ROC/GEN' checkbox. A Few of your slides might look great without correction but most will require brightness and color correction. The extra expense for color correction by hand is well worth it if you want your scanned slides to look their best. The images below were corrected using our color correction method, these slides were over 30 years old when they were scanned. The owner of the slides was about to discard many of them because he thought they were beyond repair. After I color corrected his slides by hand, he was simply amazed by the results and very thankful that he used our slide scanning services instead of discarding his slides. This is just a small sample of 1000's of slides we scanned for a small CT town's picnics and are now preserved to digital images on DVD for the town to remember.
After we complete the work, all your slides will be returned. You will receive your slides scanned as uncompressed TIFF files on DVD. This is your digital image of the original slide. You will also receive a CD with standard JPEG files for printing your slide images online or stores like Walmart, etc. We can optionally make an inexpensive slide show to view your slides using a DVD player.
All work is done on site here in Bethel, CT. USA and returned back to you. A lot of our competitors send your slides to India or China, Not us!
